Psalms Chapter 1

psalms

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

  1. Psalms Chapter 1

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful
    – My favorite Psalms; If you want to be blessed you should not look for counsel from the ungodly. You don’t hang out with sinners. The verse mentions that we should not sit in the seat of the scornful (feeling or expressing contempt or derision). We should not be the ones in this world that are feeling contempt for others. We are not to have this spirt about us, but the spirit of God that is encouraging and uplifting. We should be looking for guidance from those who are Godly around us not those of this world.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
    – The blessed man delights in the law of the Lord. This is the ways of the Lord. God’s direction for your life. This should bring you delight. We should mediate on the Word of God day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
    – The blessed man is like a tree planted by the rivers of water. This brings my mind to the verse in Revelation 22: 1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Imagine that you are like a tree that is continually nourished by the river. You will able to bear fruit. What is the fruit of the believer? Jesus says you will know us by our fruits, but what is our fruit? Galatians 5 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we are constantly fed by the living water that is God’s Word/Jesus Christ we will not wither and whatever we do we will prosper for it.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
    – When we look at the ungodly we can be assured that they will not be as those that are planted by the river. I think of the parable of the seed and that the roots may prosper for a season but they will not prosper long term. The reality is the ungodly often times looks like they are being blessed, but the reality is that they are only blessed short term. They do not have an eternal reward that those who are saved have. They have a promise of eternal life but that is the life that leads to destruction and death, not life.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
    – This verse promises us that the ungodly in the end does not stand in judgement. You see the saved will be there when the world is being judged, we will be in that congregation of the righteous (those that are right with God).
6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
    – God knows us, he knows our ways, he knows our very hearts and thoughts. He knows that those who are not in the way of the Godly end up in a very different situation. Revelation 20: 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
