3 John

1 The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth. 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health , even as thy soul prospereth . 3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. 5 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers; 6 Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well: 7 Because that for his name’s sake they went forth , taking nothing of the Gentiles. 8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth. 9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not. 10 Wherefore , if I come , I will remember his deeds which he doeth , prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith , neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would , and casteth them out of the church. 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God. 12 Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record ; and ye know that our record is true. 13 I had many things to write , but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee: 14 But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.

  1. Do you know what you do is seen by many? In today’s passage we read the cold hard fact from John the relator about our deeds being seen by others. Do you know many people watch what you do? When you are a Christian they are constantly monitoring you, seeing what you are up to, to see if you are living a “Christian” life. We can look at this in one of two different ways, we can take it for good; Realizing that we have the opportunity to show others Christ through the ways we live, or take it wrong; be upset that we have been placed on a pedestal waiting on us to mess up in our lives. How ever you look at it does not matter! We can read many places in the Bible that the right attitude is to stand strong on what we believe, and count it a blessing that we are treated differently than others. Sometimes the fact that we don’t react to being put on that pedestal helps us to share God’s love with someone who would not typically listen. I have seen many opportunities to witness to folks based on the fact that I would not get upset about things that set me apart, or living by a different standard than others. Each situation you are in is an opportunity for you to witness to those around you. If it is by them seeing you react to trials in a positive way, accept what this world will toss at you without grumbling to much about it, or simply being the steady course when things go amiss in peoples lives. I personally have seen many times that people when they are starting to go through similar trials due to circumstances out of our control (at times) hitting them. They don’t know what to do about them. They think well I can remember when I seen so and so deal with something very similar…….I wonder what he would suggest. Then you have the opportunity to share Christ with someone. Remember people are always watching!
